General Membership Meeting
December 14, 2017
The General Assembly meeting of American Legion Post 372 of December 14, 2017 was held at the Mandarin/St Johns Elks Lodge #2866.
The meeting was promptly called to order at 7:00pm by Commander Painter.
Opening ceremonies were conducted.
The Charter was undraped for Comrade George D’Ambrosio who recently passed away. Comrade D’Ambrosio served during Vietnam as a member of the United States Air Force and was an eleven-year member of the American Legion.
The Commander recognized Past Commander Franklin Hunt.
Roll Call of Officers
Roll call of Officers was held, and it was determined that a quorum was present. Judge Advocate Hempsall and Executive Board Member Nichols were absent.
Reading in of New or Transferring Members.
Motion to approve transferring members was made and seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
Motion to approve the Finance Report, subject to audit, was made and seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

The Commander informed the members that the 5th District meetings are open to everyone and that they are a great place to learn about the Legion and what is happening in our District.
The Vice Commander’s report is attached.
The Adjutant’s report is attached.
Service Officer Litsky had six contacts. His office hours are on Tuesdays at the Mandarin/St. Johns Elks Lodge from 4:30 – 6:00pm, except on the first Tuesday of the month when he is unavailable.
Finance Officer Comeaux announced that the Post needs to purchase Surety Bonds for each of the members who are on the Post’s checking account. He estimated the cost to be approximately $150.
Motion to purchase Surety Bonds for the three members on the checking account at an amount not to exceed $150.00, was made and seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
Commander Painter reported that the Department Commander’s visit was a success. We are getting recognized at the State level. We are moving in the right direction.
A member asked that the Executive Board look at the overall budget and create budgets for each of the Post’s programs.
We will be scheduling the Early Bird dinner in January/February and a cook out for April.
Post 372 has raised $26 towards PROJECT: VetRelief’s membership challenge of $1 per member. This money also counts towards the 5th District goal of $1000 per Post.
Commander Painter reported that it is too early to contact schools but that we worked with nine schools last year.
We are updating the Facebook Page regularly and the website has been redesigned.

Due to the absence of the Chair, the discussion about Flag disposal is tabled until the next meeting.
Holding raffles instead of a car show was discussed. Car Shows require many volunteers and planning hours when the gun raffle raised more money. Past Commander Hunt agreed to look for information he has about raffling a Harley Davidson motorcycle.
Motion to hold raffles instead of a car show was made and seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
The Boys State registration is due by January 31st. The cost for two delegates is $900. Transportation costs will be billed later in the year. The Adjutant will send in payment as soon as she receives documentation.
The Hot Dog Giveaway on November 11th raised $397. We are aiming to have two Giveaways on Monday, February 19th.
Don Severns and Steve Sullivan held a Flag Folding Clinic on November 11th at Lowe’s.

Motion to donate $50.00 to the Nease JROTC to help cover the costs of trophies at their Sanctioned Drill Meet on January 13, 2018, was made and seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
For the Good of the American Legion
Vice Commander Severns nominated Steve Sullivan and Jim Hughes to At-Large positions on the Executive Board and they accepted. Nominations were then closed.
Motion to elect Jim Hughes to an At-Large position on the Executive Board was made and seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
Motion to elect Steve Sullivan to an At-Large position on the Executive Board was made and seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
The Commander installed Steve Sullivan and Jim Hughes to At-Large positions on the Executive Board.
The next Executive Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 9th, 2018.
The next General Membership meeting will be held on January 11th, 2018.
The next District meeting will be held on Sunday, January 14th, 2018 at Post 233 in Ponte Vedra.
The Vice Commander presented Terry Lahey $25 for winning the quarterly recruitment drawing.
The drawing for the 43” Vizio HDTV was held and the winner was Don Severns.
There is a new Post Volunteer Opportunity Form on your chairs. If you are interested, please fill it out and return it to the Adjutant. It is also available on the website.
Closing ceremonies were conducted.
