General Membership Meeting
July 12, 2018

The General Assembly meeting of American Legion Post 372 of July 12, 2018 was held at the Mandarin/St Johns Elks Lodge #2866 with 30 members present.  

 

The meeting was promptly called to order at 7:00pm by Commander Painter.  

 

Opening ceremonies were conducted. 

 

The Commander recognized 5th District Troy Horsley and turned the meeting over to him for Post 372’s Installation of Officers.

 

The Officers of the American Legion Riders, Sons of the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, and American Legion were installed.

 

5th District Commander Horsley turned the meeting back over to Post 372 Commander Painter.

 

Roll Call of Officers

 

Roll call of Officers was held, and it was determined that a quorum was present.  Service Officer Hunt and Executive Board Member Hempsall were excused.

 

Minutes

 

The June 14, 2018 minutes are posted online at www.mandarinpost372.org/ june-14-2018.

 

Motion to approve the minutes of the June 14, 2018 meeting as posted online was made and seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

 

The July 9, 2018 Executive Board minutes were read.

 

Correspondence

 

Reading in of New or Transferring Members

 

 

 

Motion to approve new and transferring members was made and seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

 

Finance Report

 

The Finance Officer read the Finance Report.

 

Motion to approve the Finance Report, subject to audit, was made and seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

 

Old Business  

 

The upcoming Harley Davidson was discussed. The money has been raised to purchase a motorcycle, but Adamec only had one available so the Riders Director reached out to other dealers for a list of available motorcycles. As soon as the motorcycle is purchased, tickets will be purchased, and sales will begin.

 

The Post has been unable to reach Dr. Logronio to discuss Post 372 using his property as our new Post home.

 

The Membership Rally on July 4th raised $354 for the Post and we handed out information to many potential new members.

 

New Business

 

Post 372’s 2018-19 Budget was presented and will be voted on at the August 9, 2018 General Membership Meeting. Copies are available upon request to: fallenherospost372@gmail.com.

 

When applying for incorporation via SunBiz, the Post is asked to list every officer of the Post. Vystar is claiming that they are required to see every officer listed on Sunbiz to check their identification and make sure that they are a “real” person. They also require that everyone listed on Sunbiz has to be at the bank at the same time to meet this requirement. Vystar suggested that we could remove Officers from Sunbiz so that it would be easier to meet their requirements. They also claimed that all banks have these same requirements. Vice Commander Severns “bank shopped” and found that this was not true. Bank of America was less stringent, but they have monthly account fees. Fifth Third Bank is also less stringent, and they have no fees. The Executive Board voted to change banks, effective immediately.

 

The insurance policies for the Post were discussed and it was recommended that the Post look into purchasing Director’s and Officer’s Insurance considering the raffles, membership rallies, Poker Runs, and other events that have brought the Post more attention. The Executive Board voted to research the cost of Director’s and Officer’s insurance and will report back to the General Membership when the research is completed.

 

A Sporting Goods raffle committee was formed to research the viability of expanding this raffle and getting guns at cost rather than purchasing them at full price. Members currently consist of Executive Board Members and Jim Hughes and Julian Carter. Anyone wishing to participate on this Committee should contact them or the Adjutant.

 

Membership was discussed. The Post ended the year at 162.39%. We currently have 224 members per National. At this time, we do not know what our goal for 2018-19 will be. The Adjutant will call Department to see if that information is available.

 

The Adjutant noted that post growth has been driven by transfers from Post 400, but we need new members as well to continue growing stronger and larger. The Adjutant discussed the membership challenge and said she thought it needed a little enhancement.

 

The current incentive program is as follows: for every new member you recruit, your name is entered into a quarterly drawing for a $25 cash prize. For every five new members you recruit, your name is entered into a quarterly drawing for a $50 cash prize. The Adjutant challenged members of Post 372 to recruit 10 new members. Members who recruit 10 new, paid members will be entered into a quarterly drawing for a cash prize of $500, paid by the Adjutant. No post funds will be used for this challenge.

 

The 4th Quarter Post Audit has been scheduled for Thursday, July 26th at 4:30pm at the Commander’s office located at 12443 San Jose Blvd #104, Jacksonville, FL 32223. All members are welcome to attend.

Announcements

 

There is a new Post Volunteer Tracking Form available to track volunteer activities. It is available on the website and will also be available at every meeting

 

The Volunteer Opportunity Form is also available online and at every meeting. If you are interested in volunteering on a Post Program or Committee, please fill it out and return it to the Adjutant

 

The Commander stated that the Post needs a Children and Youth Chairman. He noted that if a Legionnaire is not interested but their wife is, the wife can join the Auxiliary and serve on the Post’s Children and Youth Committee.

 

The 50/50 drawing was held with Jim Hughes winning and donating a portion of his win to the  Building Fund.

  • The next Executive Board meeting will be held on Thursday, August 2nd.

 

  • The next General Membership meeting will be held on Thursday, August 9th.

 

  • The next Riders meeting is Sunday, July 15th at 10:00am. Meetings are held on the 3rd Sunday of each month. Breakfast is available for $6.00 beginning at 9:00am.

 

  • The next Auxiliary meeting is Thursday, July 26th at 7:00pm. There is a “Meet and Greet” at 6:00pm. 

 

  • The next S.A.L. meeting is Thursday, July 26th at 7:00pm. There is a “Meet and Greet” at 6:30pm.  Meetings are held on the 4th Thursday of each month.
